The firearm must be hung from the butt-end of the sling or from a Jay-Hook Support Ring which must be purchased separately and attached to the butt-stock in the same manner as a sling stud.  The barrel is pointed downward for safety.  Only one firearm at a time should be supported by a Jay-Hook; no other item or equipment should be supported on that same hook while a firearm is being supported.  Be sure to ALWAYS place the ring or sling all the way into the cradle of the Jay-Hook.  This allows a hunter to free up their hands while securely supporting the firearm.

Cameras attach to the Camera Head using standard 1/4 X 20 thread.  The end of the Jay-Hook is inserted into the receiver hole of the Camera Head.  A thumb screw is tightened to lock the Camera Head in place.  The "L" bolt, when tensioned, will support a camera of 2-1/4 pounds or one kilogram.  No need to look for a rock or stump to support the camera for group or solo photos. For best results, strap the Jay-Hook to a tree; attach the camera to the Camera Head, then place the Camera Head onto the Jay-Hook and tighten, position the camera and its ready.

The Jay-Hook may be inverted for use on a post.  Place the Jay-Hook in the upside down position and strap to a post.  If the post is small the strap may be wrapped around the shank and post several times and then tightened.  Once in place the Camera Head is attached to the Jay-Hook.   The camera may be adjusted in a 360 degree fashion.

The Support Ring is made of mild steel.  To attach the support ring to the stock, drill a hole in the stock in the same fashion as a sling strud is drilled the threaded shank of the support ring is slightly larger than the threads of the common sling stud. Once the tail of the support ring is level with and touching the bottom portion of the butt-stock a second screw must be used to secure the tail to prevent turning of the ring.  Failure to secure the tail with a second screw will result in a dangerous condition in which the ring may twist and the gun will fall from the hook.

Muzzleloaders which possess a strong brass or iron trigger guard with grip rails may be hung from the Jay-Hook using the rear portion of the grip rail.  Muzzleloaders should not be supported by the trigger itself!  Muzzleloaders which do not possess extended grip rails require the attachment of a Jay-Hook Support Ring or use of a sling.  As always the barrel is pointed downward for safety.
